Abstract/Summary:
This thesis deals with the damage assessment and structural health monitoring system of Kishwaukee River Bridge using non-destructive damage evaluation technique. Following steps were followed during the related research work, first, the bridge status was described. Then using the diagnostic test (including static and dynamic test), the local and global information for the bridge was obtained and the base line of the bridge was set up. After that, the non-destructive damage evaluation method was reviewed and a finer finite element model was built up. According to damage index method and finite element updating, the location and severity of the damage was predicted. The computed results matched with the measured results very well. Finally, a health monitoring system was built up. According to this monitoring system, the owner and maintenance authorities can make rational decisions when assigning the budget for repair, replacement or rehabilitation of their structure.
