| The need for sustainability and the need to understand the overall impact of the transportation system on the environment are the driving forces behind the analysis of personal-use vehicle emissions in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), for five-year intervals between 1986 and 1996. This study focuses on the development of a procedure to estimate emissions from personal-use vehicles for a typical twenty-four hour weekday and the subsequent analysis of the results. The EMITPP06 emissions estimation model, developed at the University of Alberta is used to provide estimates of carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, hydrocarbons and nitrous oxides for the GTA. The Comprehensive Modal Emissions Model, developed at the University of California, Riverside, is also used to compare emissions estimates. |
