Abstract/Summary:
HDF5 and NetCDF are the two most widely used data formats for storing scientific data. The scientific data files are very difficult to store, analyze, access and manage. HDF5 and NetCDF give recourse from all these predicaments to the scientists and researchers. However, selection of the data format out of these two is another challenge for the researchers. Specific applications run better on one format than the other. This thesis will perform a comprehensive comparison on HDF5 and NetCDF for scientific and engineering data conversion and storage. Software is designed and developed which facilitates these conversions. The data is compared for speed, size, structure and implementation with the help of the software. The software also converts the data from text, HDF5 and NetCDF to any other format out of these three.
