Abstract/Summary:
This thesis proposes to discuss the creation of a drama series targeting cable television. By researching and evaluating common practices in today's television, while understanding the ins and outs of the marketing strategies for these shows, the objective is to create a script that will satisfy what is researched. By examining case studies in detail, and understanding how these series are built, I plan to understand how to better build a television bible that could be purchased by a cable network HBO or AMC, while also researching how new writers can get their projects noticed by the TV executives that make the big decisions when it comes to finding new shows to be broadcast.;A Play on Words is the show that I propose to write, a mysterious drama that follows the early days of an actress and a writer in Hollywood intercalating the story of two different worlds: the reality of their situation in the city of dreams and the fantasy created by the writer taking place in the thirties. A Play on Words is the playground for a world of unforgettable characters in Hollywood, a world full of romance, mystery, power, dreams and intricate storylines that promise to entertain, infatuate and inspire everyone who has ever had a dream for their life. This show will allow me to explore the current trend of period series on television and understand their appeal to the general public and the Hollywood critics.
