Abstract/Summary:
Methods of analysis and synthesis of fiber Bragg gratings (FBG), derived from coupled modes theory, were used as tools to develop design techniques of FBGs which were applied to WDM bandpass filters with low dispersion and no phase shift. On the one hand, experimental making of these devices in our laboratory enabled us to define and understand the fabrication contraints implied in the design process. On the other hand, this work has contributed to the achievement of a significant expertise in FBG fabrication by our research group. Indeed, identification and control of the principal errors causes due to fabrication process were made. Moreover, we propose a method to counter the non-linearity effects of the photosensitivity fiber on the reflectivity and dispersion spectra. In short, we tried to control the fabrication errors in order to experimentally obtain the same reflectivity and dispersion spectra than those resulting from the numerical design.
