Abstract/Summary:
An attempt at fabricating a Boolean Logic gate from nickel nanodots deposited on top of gold microwires was made. Titanium and gold were deposited at thicknesses of 5/500 nanometers respectively, and patterned with optical lithography. A second deposition of titanium and gold with thicknesses 5/200 nanometers was deposited.;The metals were patterned with electron beam lithography into microwires of widths 100 to 8000 nanometers. Silicon oxide was deposited by PECVD covering the microwires. Nickel nanodots were then deposited onto the oxide by evaporation through a porous alumina thin film. Current was run through the microwires and MFM was used to measure the magnetic polarization of the nickel dots.;Imaging revealed application of the voltage, but the possibility of the creation of a logic gate by the switching of the dots' polarization was not successful.
