The concentrations of the oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) salivary biomarkers Cyfra 21-1, CA125 and TPS had never been previously studied in the saliva of oral lichen planus (OLP) patients. This study investigates whether the concentrations of these biomarkers are elevated in the saliva of OLP patients when compared to controls. Saliva samples were collected from three groups of subjects: patients with active OLP (Group A), patients with inactive OLP (Group B), and controls (Group C). Salivary concentrations of these biomarkers were determined using ELISA and the results were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U-test. There were no significant differences (p>0.05) in salivary concentration of Cyfra 21, CA125 and TPS among the three groups. Salivary Cyfra 21-1, CA125 and TPS might be potential biomarkers for detecting OSCC development in OLP patients. |
