Abstract/Summary:
This thesis explores the potential for green collar jobs to integrate justice into the emerging green economy. It draws the connections between (1) the economic and environmental problems facing the U.S. that call for a just, green economy; (2) the green industry performance and investment data and local, state, and national government regulations that indicate a "greening" of the economy; and (3) the beginning of a "green jobs movement" that is reacting to this timely and unique opportunity to create jobs and help the environment. This study also provides an in-depth case study of the development, funding, and operational details of an emerging green jobs training program. It concludes with recommendations for government and community-based organizations to stimulate the growth of green collar jobs and make them accessible to the people that need them most.
