The Region of Peel Commercial Travel Survey was conducted so that a better understanding of urban freight in the Greater Golden Horseshoe could be achieved. To do this, a comprehensive literature review that outlines the major decision makers, the state of the art in freight modelling, and previous freight surveys was used to guide the design of a mailout-mailback survey. The survey consists of two parts, a shipper survey that gathers information on the establishment and inbound and outbound shipments and a driver survey that collects stop information and tour characteristics. The preliminary analysis is the first step in the development of an agent-based microsimulation model that is essential for comprehensive policy analysis including emissions. |
