Developing digital region investigation and realizing modernization of Region Geologic Survey are both the desire for Chinese geologists and prevailing tendency of the current world Region Geologic Survey work. Today, with the rapid growth of computer and Internet technology, it becomes inevitable that the output of Region Geologic Survey is apt to be more informative and accessible to Internet. As a result, this convert ion may more rapidly turn production of science and technology into fertility, and thus far better serve our economic construction, social production and the building up of national defense.WebGIS is a computer information system about compatibility, memory, disposal, analysis, display and application of geographical info under web circumstances. Geographical info is concerned with the description of spatial places and spatial relationships on the surface of the earth. IMS (Internet Map Server) is WebGIS product developed by ESRI company, which provides strong Internet sustenance for the application of GIS. IMS derives and then extends from ESRI MapObjects, including an ActiveX Control and modules for managing requests from Web customers. IMS sends requests and responses to GIS module of Web server and transfers ultimate graphics and data to browser. This systematic research applies WebGIS technology to region geologic research info system, of which IMS is made most use.The region geologic survey info system based on WebGIS is an important constitution module of the whole region survey system, which used section info of Cuona lake in Donggei Qinghai province as research object. Using this system not only makes region geologic survey digital, but also enables us to share outcome in Internet and diminish corresponding geologic research work of the same region to the minimum. Cuona lake of Qinghai province is the one amongst the nine info network experimental units throughout the country. The establishment of this system brings about valuable reference for technology in the field of info net outcome of geologic survey. This system is targeted at the establishment of Internet inquiring system in terms of region geology database. It should function as a media to provide the sharing of info fruit and realizing Internet issuing, inquiring, zooming, browsing and the like. The essay consists of seven chapters. The first chapter expatiates the significance of digital region geologic survey outcome, source of the subject, and its anticipation. It places special emphasis on the introduction of actuality of digital regional geologic survey. Network construction of digital section is researching direction of digital section technology in future. The second chapter demonstrates the characteristic and developing situation of WebGIS. In addition, it makes a comparison between diverse methods of exploitation on the part of WebGIS.The third chapter is related to the design of MIS of section. The main contents include demand analysis, research content of system, and physical model of system, logical model ofsystem, data classification and system function. The forth chapter presents a rough introduction to correlation technology involved in the research, with a detailed description of the key technology of section MIS. The solution scheme to CGI WebGIS-IMS and MapObjects is also touched upon. The fifth chapter is focused on system realization. In the light of the fact that the system calls for comparatively strong capability of spatial inquiring, MapObjects and Internet Map Server for MapObject (MOIMS) are utilized as the developing tool. Its exploit circumstance is VB of Microsoft and HTML 4.0 for dynamic web facture and VBScript script language. While the system is taken stock of, some analyses and conclusions are made as for its realization technology. The sixth chapter finally illustrates some problems existing in network of region geologic survey and predicts the prospect, along with some reference to future research.
