Abstract/Summary:
This study investigated the communication needs of the Corporate Management and Operations Branch of the Health Sector Information Management and Technology (HSIMT) Division at the British Columbia Ministry of Health Services. It identified how communication can help staff and leadership build knowledge and understanding of the organization and then use this knowledge to promote development of relationships, earn trust, and build a culture that supports and promotes an engaging and learning work environment. Communication and relationships within HSIMT are influenced by the large size of the organization and its complex internal and external relationships. To facilitate understanding of relevant leadership theories, attention was given to the review of literature regarding communication styles within organizations, the processes required for changing to a learning organization, and the impact of change within an organization and culture. The study also adhered to Royal Roads University's ethical principles, policies, and guidelines.
