Abstract/Summary:
The sports journalism field continues to be suppressed by a male dominated regime, while further subjugating women to an inferior position when choosing this career path. My primary focus for this thesis project is to exemplify how women have not been permitted to gain equal status in the career field of sports journalism. Sports and sports journalism continues to be a male dominated culture that leaves little to no room for the acceptance of women. Women are viewed as not being as knowledgeable regarding this subject matter and are disrespected and underrepresented because of a superficial stereotype constructed decades ago that is still greatly prevalent today. I will be emphasizing what is currently promoting the continual rejection of women's interest and entrance into this field, while also portraying possible solutions to eliminate this masculine hegemonic structure to a career field that promotes gender equality on all levels.
