Abstract/Summary:
"Eco-cultural Gardening" is an educational program that involves a wide array of topics from soil preparation, planting, garden maintenance, harvesting and post-harvest, to culture. The goal is to enhance traditional ecological knowledge about gardening from Native American and indigenous Bolivian cultures.;This thesis is organized into six chapters. It begins with reviews of gardening traditions in indigenous cultures of the United States and Bolivia, proceeds with ecological principles and then moves through the gardening season from soil preparation to harvest and post-harvest.;Each chapter begins with learning objectives and end with a literature review the material has been copied cited come from texts and web sites to provide the necessary reading; each chapter discusses a traditional method of cultural gardening that is supported by scientific research. A Power Point presentation has been prepared as part of the lecture to support the reading material. An evaluation/assessment plan is also provided for each chapter: and laboratory and/or field practices are provided to provide hands-on learning experience for the students.
