Li Yu is an outstanding representative of literati who lived in the lateof Ming Dynasty. He writes books and set up a theory, which revealsgreat interests in landscape, he also shows special preference to gardenbedroom culture life. The book “Occasional Enjoyment in a Free Mood”is the work of his remaining years which centralized reflects his artisticthought. This article is intended to explore Li Yu’s garden creation theoryand practice. It is divided into three parts. The first chapter is based onthe construct concept and views of Li Yu’s garden room which serves as astarting point, to analysis the chrematistics of Li Yu’s gardening creationtheory，then summarize its layout, the concept of function, cost, furniture,etc.The second chapter expatiates upon the gardening and hermit culturein order to clarify the transaction of hermit culture in the gardening. Thenafterwards, compares the gardening theory with the same period’s artistsQi Biao Jia, thus embodies Li Yu’s unique prospect of “lake gardening”.The last chapter narrates the gardening practices of Li Yu, analysisLi Yu’s Gardening activities which makes the image of the gardeningartist more specific and clear.
