In a vague and changeable professional environment, people’s career decision-making becomes more complicated and difficult.Individuals often have to make many important career decisions, such as changing employers or career fields. How to choose a more suitable occupation is a big problem for many job seekers. At the same time, more and more companies conduct personality assessments when recruiting new employees. Can this predict the variables of employee behavior and job outcomes? This is also a problem that requires verification. On the other hand, many scholars have paid attention to the impact of personality traits on job satisfaction, but the impact of conscientiousness, agreeableness and openness to experience on job satisfaction is not uniform. Therefore,it is necessary to explore the reasons for the differences.Based on the supplementary model of person-environment congruence, this study test the impact of occupational environment on the relationship between personality and job satisfaction. This study focused on Holland’s theory of vocational personalities and work environments, and divided 376 occupations into four categories by latent profile analysis:integrated management, physical operation, research analysis and content expression.Study 2 explored the impact of personality on job satisfaction based on the four occupational categories obtained in study 1.Results showed that,in integrated management occupations, extraversion, conscientiousness and emotional stability related positively, openness of experience related negatively to job satisfaction;in physical operation occupations, extraversion, conscientiousness and emotional stability related positively to job satisfaction;in research analysis occupations, emotional stability related positively to job satisfaction;in content expression occupations, extraversion, agreeableness and conscientiousness related positively to job satisfaction. This study divides 376 specific occupations into four categories. The differences between the major categories can be explained by the differences in occupational environment scores. There is a clear theoretical basis. At the same time, based on regression analysis, the role of occupational environment in explaining the unstable relationship between personality and job satisfaction is explored. Finally, the research results have certain reference and guidance significance for individuals in the career exploration period or enterprises with talent needs.
