Since Chinese and Australia established formal diplomatic relations, their bilateral economic and trade relations have kept developing, especially the development of agricultural product trade.Although China has been in a deficit position in agricultural product trade between China and Australia, agricultural trade of these two countries is based oin the advantages of their owin resources endowment generally.Because China’s production technology is relatively backward, most of the agricultural products exported by China to Australia are labor-intensive and processing-intensive while land-intensive agricultural products are less.By analyzing the intra-industry trade index of agricultural products trade between the two countries(HS1-24 chapters),trade complementarity index, export similarity, trade intensity index and competitive advantage index, this paper finds that most of the agricultural products trade between the two countries belongs to inter-industry trade, and that less than 40%of the agricultural products exported in the global agricultural products market of China and Australia are similar, which shows weak competitiveness and strong complementarity. In addition, the characteristics of strong trade dependence is very beneficial to the development of Sino-Australian agricultural trade in the future.By sorting out the literature, this paper analyzes that trade policy arrangement, economic level difference, exchange rate fluctuation between China and Australia, and cultural system difference may have some influence on the export of Chinese agricultural products to Australia. Therefore, this papers constructs regression model by constructing the trade gravity model from 2007 to 2017.,selecting variables such as Australia’s gross domestic product,China’s agricultural output value,Australia’s non-tariff measures bulletin, the exchange rate of RMB and Australian dollar and stability of Sino-Australian diplomatic relations. The results show that the increase of Australia’s gross domestic product, the increase of China’s agricultural added value and the stability of political relations will have a substantial impact on China’s agricultural exports to Australia. In particular, the growth of Australia’s gross domestic product and the increase of China’s agricultural added value will play a more important role in promoting China’s agricultural exports. In the fut’ure, although the international economic and trade situation is not yet clear,Sino-US economic and trade form may affect Sino-Australian economic and trade relations to a certain extent.China and Australia need to enhance understanding and mutual trust through more dialogue and cooperation. At the same time,we should also recognize that there is still much room for improvement in quality management and structure of agricultural products in China. In the future, the Chinese government should strengthen the quality supervision of agricultural products and minimize the impact of Australian non-tariff barriers on China’s agricultural export trade.Orn the basis of giving full play to the advantages of agricultural exports of various countries,we should continue to strengthen bilateral economic and trade cooperation between China and Australia for agricultural products, further optimize the import and export structure of agricultural products, improve the green agricultural subsidy system, enhance China’s agricultural strength, strengthen regional economic integration and expand China’s agricultural export market. |
