Drama in Education is a teaching method that combines dramatic elements with educational elements in teaching,uses the skills,conventions and elements of drama and theater to achieve the purpose of education,emphasizes students’ participation,experience and emotions in the process and promotes students’ development.Since the reform of basic education,quality education has no longer merely pursued scores,but also paid more attention to students’ ability in emotion,attitude and interpeesonal communication etc.Drama in Education can arouse students’ participation and enthusiasm in the process,thus helping them gain more experience and create scenarios to help students solve problems.Besides,it can guide the students’ emotion,attitude and values in reading.In the mainland of China,Drama in Education has gradually attracted the attention of scholars and teachers,and Drama in Education has appeared in primary and secondary schools,including different disciplines and grades.Understanding is the core of reading,and reading teaching is to bridge the gap between students’ reading ability and the cognitive and emotional ideas of the author that students cannot understand.Teachers can help students to understand the ideas expressed by the author,improving students’ reading ability and experience.That is what reading teaching means.As Drama in Education has the nature of education,under the era background of the reform of basic education,this paper analyses the similarities between the basic concepts and objectives of Chinese curriculum and that of Drama in Education.Besides,the use of drama elements in Drama in Education conforms to the students’ physical and mental development characteristics in compulsory education stage,which provides theoretical basis for the application of Drama in Education in Chinese reading teaching.In the traditional Chinese reading teaching,teachers usually use analytical method,which separates the Chinese characters,phrases and sentences in the article and analyzes them one by one.For the knowledge that students need to experience in reading teaching,students have no access to experiencing the knowledge,which may bore students.This study uses the literature method,case analysis method and interview method to analyse five cases in the primary school with the application of Drama in Education.And it analyses the role of Drama in Education plays in the Chinesereading teaching from the perspectives of the conventions or elements of Drama in Education and Chinese reading teaching.Five cases include four types of text,namely fairy tales,picture books,ancient Chinese writings,and dramas.After the analysis of five cases,this paper found that the application of Drama in Education in Chinese reading teaching has the following features.firstly,the conventions of Drama in Education and Chinese conventional teaching activities can work in parallel.Secondly,Drama in Education can be applied in class and as a method of teaching.Thirdly,the conventions of Drama in Education used in different types of texts are basically the same.Fourthly,Drama in Education is suitable for studying materials with plots or conflicts.Fifthly,Drama in Education is suitable for the perception of materials but not for the analysis of materials.Based on that,the author draws some enlightenment on the application of Drama in Education in Chinese reading teaching as follows:(1)The concepts of teachers shall be changed and Drama in Education shall be encouraged.(2)Teachers shall choose appropriate materials with reasonable guidance.(3)Professional training should be enhanced to improve teachers’ teaching abilities and students’ learning abilities together.(4)The teaching contents and methods shall be emphasized.(5)Teaching files shall be kept to carry out comprehensive evaluation..
