The junior middle school stage is a key period for the development of students' geometric thinking. It is of great significance to understand students' geometric thinking characteristics, conduct correct guidance to improve students' geometric thinking ability and cultivate their Mathematics core accomplishment in this stage. The purpose of this study is to understand the status quo of students' geometric thinking level in Grade 7,analyze the relevant factors that affect the development of students' thinking level, and put forward teaching strategies to effectively improve students' geometric thinking level.Research based on the Van Hiele theory, sorted out the relevant references, and the test paper of Van Hiele geometric thinking level designed for seventh grade students was used as a research tool, and selected 323 students from eight classes of Gread Seven as the research object, half of which were from a middle school of urban area and half were from that of suburb. This research used SPSS data analysis software to analyze the collected test data, and conducted qualitative analysis on the factors affecting students' geometrical thinking level through interviews with students and teachers.According to the investigation and the classification of geometric thinking level by Van Hiele theory,it is concluded that 5.3% of students' geometric thinking level are still at level one;68.4% of those are at level two;25% of those are at level three and only 1.4% of the students reached level four. Most of the students in Grade Seventh reach level two in geometric thinking and very few of those are still at level one or have progressed to level four.Through the analysis of relevant influencing factors,it is concluded that there is no significant difference in the geometric thinking level among Grade 7 students of different genders and ages. There is a significant difference in students' level of geometric thinking between urban and suburban schools,in which the geometric thinking of urban areas are higher.According to the analysis of the survey results, the stronger the students' spatial imagination ability and self-improvement drive, the better the students' learning effect and the higher the teacher's geometric ability and accomplishment, the better the classroom effect.
