In order to explore the current situation of self-directed learning tendency and test anxiety of junior high school students in Nanjing, and the relationship between the two. This study uses the "Self-directed Learning Tendency Scale for junior high school students" and the "Test Anxiety questionnaire" to test 447 junior high school students in order to conduct the survey. This study is divided into two parts. The first study is based on 447 junior high school students in a junior high school in Nanjing. The questionnaire is used to investigate students’ self-directed learning tendency, test anxiety and the relationship between the two.The second study is based on the theory of group counseling, adding self-directed learning theory to design a group counseling program to release participants’ test anxiety, and using covariance analysis to test its effectiveness.Results:(1)In terms of self-directed learning tendency, the year 7 and year 8 students of the school have significant gender differences in the preferred learning dimension of self-directed learning,in active learning, passive learning, effective learning, open learning and lifelong learning. The gender differences in the five dimensions are not significant;the difference between the only child and the non-only child in the open learning dimension of self-directed learning is significant.(2)In terms of test anxiety level, the gender difference of year 7 and year 8 students in the school is significant.(3)There was a significant negative correlation between the total score of self-directed learning tendency and the total score of test anxiety level(p<0.01).Specifically,in addition to negative learning, active learning, effective learning, favorite learning, open learning, and lifelong learning are negatively correlated with test anxiety level.(4)Effective learning, open learning and negative learning in self-directed learning tendency can significantly predict students’ test anxiety,in which effective learning is a significant negative prediction, while open learning and negative learning present a significant positive prediction.(5)The group counseling based on self-directed learning theory has a significant effect on the intervention anxiety of the participants. In general, the self-directed learning tendency of the participants was high, the situation that most students having high test anxiety level need to be resolved. This study showed that there was a significant negative correlation between the two.At the same time, the intervention program that using the self-directed learning theory also achieved the expected results.
