An Analysis Of The Exchange Of International Students In Chinese And American Colleges And Universities Under The Background Of The High-level Consultation Mechanism On The Humanities Exchange Between China And The United States (2010-2018)

China-US relationship is one of the most important bilateral relations in the world,people-to-people exchange are the basis of bilateral relations.Nowadays,People-to-people exchange,political mutual trust,and economic and trade cooperation have become the three pillars of China-US relationship.However,since 2011,the annual growth rate of the number of China-US two-way student has shown a downward trend.This is inconsistent with the outcomes presented by the US-China High-level Consultation People to People Exchange.The common reason for this phenomenon is mainly the differences in China-US Higher Education,and the problem of Credits Transfer has influenced the exchange and cooperation of China-US in Higher Education.The decline in annual growth rates for Chinese students studying in the US is also affected by other factors.From China side,it include the reduced number of the school-age population in higher education,the increase of the admission rate of college entrance examination and the gradual increase of China-US cooperative education projects.From the international perspective,the US visa policy,especially the change of visa policy for Chinese students since trump took office.While other developed countries,such as Canada and Australia,have more favorable policies on enrollment of foreign students than the United States,which results in a diversion of the number of Chinese students studying in the United States.There are several reasons for the cause of the decline in the number of American students coming to China,which influenced by the US,China and the international community.Among them,American college students lack of motivation to go abroad,and show less interest in learning a second language.In addition,students are under pressure from college loan,which has long been one of the main reasons for the American students to go abroad.In the view of China,there are several factors,such as the quality of Chinese higher education,the internationalization of Chinese language,the limitation of working and employment policies and the current fees of overseas students in China While European universities have attracted more American students with their high education quality,European Credit Transfer System,open job and employment environment,low tuition fee and various government subsidies.To change this phenomenon,both China and the United States should face this challenge,adopt a positive attitude and work together to promote China-US two-way student.
