A Study On China-UK High Level People-to-People Dialogue

Since the adoption of reform and opening up policy,Chinese government has attached great importance to people-to-people dialogue with foreign countries and made it a key strategy when it comes to external exchanges.So now,people-to-people dialogue,together with strategic mutual trust and economic and trade cooperation has formed a solid foundation for China's foreign relations and is playing a major role in promoting a healthy development for bilateral and multilateral relations.The history of Sino-British relation dates back a long time ago,and the two countries enjoy close ties on people-to-people dialogue,politically strategic coordination and trade cooperation.With the improving relations between the two sides,now Sino-British relation has upgraded from strategic partnership to global comprehensive strategic partnership,gaining more significance in the global sense.Under the joint efforts of both countries,China-UK High Level People-to-People Dialogue mechanism has been established in the year of 2012,joined by China-Britain Strategic Dialogue and China-Britain Economic and Financial Dialogue,they have now become three pillars in Sino-British relation.In the following 5 years,both countries have successfully held four sessions of dialogues and is expecting the 5th soon.On the way of its growth,this mechanism has adapted itself to the fast development and changing times and tides,especially in 2013,when the Chinese government put forward One Belt One Road initiative in which the British side was actively engaged.And later among all western powers,Britain made the first announcement to join AIIB(Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank)which indicated it's unwavering support for China's initiative.Later on,Sino-British relation entered into the Golden Era after the 2015 super state visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to the UK and the two sides have conducted closer cooperation in various areas ever since.It is against this background that the China-UK High Level People-to-People Dialogue made full use of its opportunities for development and has expanded the cooperation area from six to nine,bringing in more depth and breadth for the cooperation between the two sides.And among the nine areas,traditional exchange area such as the Generation UK project in education is in full blossom.When it comes to new exchange area,regional cooperation stands out as an emerging growth point within the China-UK High Level People-to-People Dialogue mechanism.In the meanwhile,it is worth noticing that there are still many differences between the two sides when it comes to ideology,social systems and etc.What is more important to bear in mind is that these differences won't disappear overnight.And since there are two sides of a coin,with the blooming development of the mechanism,some questions arise as whether the boundary among people-to-people dialogue,economic cooperation and political dialogue has been blurred and whether the projects undertaken are truly relevant to cultural and people-to-people dialogue.These are also the concerns of the writer.
