Research On The Phenomenon Of Interjection In Modern Chinese

Interjection interruption is a phenomenon of verbal communication in which the interjection is used by the speaker to disturb the verbal communication or action thus leading to the interruption of the original topic or action.It’s a very important linguistic phenomenon in modern Chinese oral communication.On the basis of defining the concept of interjection interruption,this paper summarizes the types of interjection interruption,describes the discourse distribution of interjection interruption,and discusses the discourse function of interjection interruption.First,this paper discusses the nature and classification of interjection interruption.As far as its nature is concerned,interjection interruption has three main characteristics namely: generativity,intensification and impoliteness.As an independent component,the interjection breaks can be used to replace the negative or rhetorical content sentences.When an interjection is used for discourse interruption,it reinforces the pragmatic function of the interjection itself,which is the manifestation of its intensification.Interjection interruption violates the politeness principle in speech communication,which is the manifestation of its impoliteness.In terms of category,the interruption between two parties in conversation are called non-self-interruptions,and the interruption in sentences of a single speaker are called self-interruptions.All non-self interruptions are passive interruptions which can be divided into active interruptions and passive interruptions according to whether they can be controlled by the speaker.Secondly,this research discusses the discourse distribution of interjection interruption.Judging from the position of the discourse,at the beginning of the turn,the interjection breaks off the predecessor’s language or action,and at the middle of the turn,the interjection breaks off its own language.At the end of the turn,the interjection is a question,doubt or evaluation of one’s own language or thinking.From the perspective of the distribution of interjections,in addition to the use of interjections alone,there are multiple forms of interjections namely: interjection superposition,interjections and exclamatory,negative words,first-person perspective clauses and other forms.Finally,this text explores the discourse function of interjection distribution.Interjection interruption has the interpersonal interaction function,discourse organization function and the street connection function.The interpersonal interaction function of interjection interruption is mainly manifested in two aspects: interpersonalcoordination function and communicative interaction function.This plays a function in arousing attention,responding to feedback and self-report hesitation which is used to express the speaker’s attitude and emotional state.The discourse organization function of interjection interruption is mainly manifested in three aspects:self-correction,changing the communicative object,and emphasizing the content before and after.The street connection function of interjection interruption is embodied in four aspects which are: introducing the topic,consolidating the topic,continuing the topic and changing the topic.
