| The thesis summarized the definition, attribution and features of the 87 interjections in the Modern Chinese Dictionary (the Fifth Edition) in terms of the phonetics, the syntax, the semantics and the pragmatics, which provided the background for the comparative analysis of the differences between the interjections and the onomatopoeias as well as the modal particles.Chapter One is the introduction. This chapter analyzed the purpose and significance of the study of the interjections, followed by review of the studies of the subjects. The object and the scope of the research were also defined in this chapter.Chapter Two studied the definition and the attribution of the interjections. The interjections were defined as autonomous words and were not categorized into notional words and functional words.Chapter Three summarized the features of the interjections in terms of the characters, the phonetics, the semantics and the syntax. The radical of“å£â€is the major image radical of the interjection characters, which have a lot of variant characters. The main structure of the interjections is monosyllabic. An interjection has several emotional meanings, and one emotional meaning can be expressed by different interjections. A change in the tone can bring the change of the semantic meaning under different contexts. The most significant syntax features of the interjection include independent application: being a sentence independently, or being a part of a sentence independently in the front, the middle or the end of a sentence.Chapter Four investigated the differences between the interjections and the onomatopoeias and the modal particles. The interjections and the onomatopoeias differed mainly in five aspects, the phonetics, the syntax, the semantics, the pragmatics and the rhetoric, while the differences between the interjections and the modal particles were also showed in five aspects, the phonetics, the syntax, the semantics, the pragmatics and the modality expression.Chapter Five came to a conclusion in which the major findings of the thesis were concluded and suggestions for further explorations are presented. |
