Corpus-based Analysis Of The Use Of Buzzwords

As a representative of popular culture,catchwords are a special linguistic and temporal phenomenon,playing an important role in mass and media expression.On the basis of previous studies,this paper explores the basic characteristics of buzzwords,and makes annual statistics on the frequency of the use of buzzwords in the paper and online media corpus from 2009 to 2018.Based on the frequency of use,this paper investigates the use of buzzwords in the two corpora from the perspective of synchronic and diachronic,and makes a comparative analysis.The analysis results are combined with the linguistic norms of catchwords,and relevant Suggestions are put forward.Through the above research,the following conclusions are drawn.First,compared with ordinary language,the characteristics of catchwords are prominent.Buzzwords come from various sources,among which hot social events,Internet and mass media are the main sources.Structural innovation is mainly composed of pure Chinese characters,with a small number of language forms composed of symbols or a mixture of English and Chinese,which is an important manifestation of language fusion.The language level is mainly represented by words and phrases,concise syllables and strong communication.In terms of form,it is mainly a fixed language form,with a few construction buzzwords,which have high productivity.At the same time,the innovation ability of catchwords is strong,reflecting the internal tolerance or form,the new catchwords are many,reflecting people's use of language with The Times,personalized psychology.Second,through the study of synchro,it is found that both the early,middle and late stages of catchwords in the two corpora have the characteristics of large frequency difference between the two poles,less use of high-frequency catchwords concentrated,and more frequent catchwords.In addition,the high frequency buzzwords in each stage have the characteristic of syllable brevity,which conforms to the economic principle of language.However,the usage rate of net corpus to catchwords is higher than that of paper corpus.Therefore,the use of buzzwords in paper corpus is more concentrated,and the use of net corpus is more extensive.From the perspective of content,the high-frequency buzzwords in the paper corpus reflect the thought of national governance and the advocacy of people's spirit,and embody the main melody of society.In addition to reflecting social hot spots,the high-frequency buzzwords in the internet-based corpus have become high-frequency buzzwords as time goes on,which express social psychology and survival dilemma.This shows that newspapers and media are more official and are the window for politicians to ask questions,while Internet media show more attention to the psychological demands of netizens' lives.Thirdly,through diachronic investigation,it is found that the paper corpus is mainly of "recession type" and "continuous type",while the net corpus is mainly of "recession type" and "bulge type".Since mainstream newspapers and magazines are relatively conservative,while online media are open and updated quickly,the paper corpus is relatively stable compared with the online corpus,and the fluctuations of the online corpus are larger.Although some catchwords show a declining trend of development,their frequency is still very high,indicating that they have entered their common vocabulary.At the same time,no matter in or in the corpus of web media,print media corpus buzzwords diachronic changes affected by many factors,such as the change of the hot issues of society attention,catchword refraction of mass psychology,using buzzwords bandwagon effect,pursuit of buzzwords load content,focus on the characteristics and buzzwords itself.Fourth,there are a lot of different ideas about the standard of catchwords.According to the monitoring of catchwords,the diurnal change curve of catchwords is drawn,which to some extent shows the internal law of catchwords and helps to provide a basis for the establishment of scientific language norms.We should establish a dynamic view of language and follow its own rules.The establishment of appropriate language norms,so as to make catchwords develop in a healthy and appropriate direction,to better serve language communication.
