A Study On The Catchword Meme “Yun + X” Construction From The Perspective Of Memetics

Catchwords are language products of social development,Internet technological revolution and cultural iteration,which reflect and influence the development of social politics,economy and culture.With the development of computer technology,“云计算(cloud computing)”appears in people’s lives.Since then,the word“云(cloud)”has been linked to the“Internet”.Language development and social progress influence each other,with the number of words of catchword meme“Yun+x”construction increases and the range of application is expanded.This paper takes the catchword meme “Yun + x” construction as the research object,and discusses the process of replication and transmission of the catchword meme construction,the factors influencing it to become a strong meme and the pragmatic functions from the perspective of memetics.A total of 132 words of catchword meme “Yun + x” construction are collected from the People’s Daily graphic database and the Chinese Language Living Status Report from 2006 to 2020.The author analyzes the structure,growth areas and growth trends of these words at different stages.The major findings of the research are as follows:(1)The process of replication and transmission of the catchword meme “Yun + x” construction has gone through four stages:assimilation,retention,expression and transmission.At the assimilation stage,the simplicity,formality,authority,novelty and distinctiveness of the catchword meme construction facilitate the host’s attention,understanding and acceptance,which promote the assimilation of memes.At the retention stage,the invariance,coherence,utility and conformity of the catchword meme construction promote the memes to stay for a long time,forming a solid memory.At the stage of expression and transmission,the intense expressiveness of the catchword meme“Yun + x” construction promotes its spread,and successively forms the crazy growth and even semantic deviation of the meme construction in the field of computer and cross-field.(2)In the practical application of language,the average number of the increase of words is used to divide the period of the use of the catchword meme “Yun + x” construction,which can be divided into two stages: at the slow growth stage,the usage of the words of “Yun + x” is limited in the field of computer,with low using frequency,and the main users are enterprises and governments;at the stage of rapid growth,the use of the words of “Yun + x” extends to the medical industry and the entertainment field,showing a blowout growth in usage frequency,and common people begin to become the main body of users in news reports.(3)The needs of social development,the contact of different languages,and the changes in human psychology have promoted the widespread transmission of the catchword meme “Yun+ x” construction.(4)The catchword meme “Yun + x” construction has the pragmatic functions of saving effort,conveying information,expressing emotions and expressing humour.This study combines dynamic research with in-depth research and combines language development with social psychology to provide new ideas for the study of memetics and catchwords.At the same time,the database established in this study can also provide a reference for future studies.
