| This paper aims to organize and analyze the grammatical phenomena of the Dai language based on existing language synchronic corpus, and further construct and outline its grammaticalization paths. For this, the grammaticalization paths of Dai language will be compared and analyzed with various language branches within the Tai-Kadai language family, exploring their universals and distinctness.By revealing the commonalities in the grammatical evolution of Dai language and the Tai-Kadai language family, the paper discovers the unique characteristics of grammaticalization phenomena in the Dai language, providing a comprehensive and systematic organization of existing research on the grammaticalization of the Dai language. The paper consists of five chapters, with chapters two, three, and four discussing the grammatical paths of nouns, verbs, and adjectives in the Dai language, respectively. There are detailed introductions to each chapter.Chapter One of this paper serves as the introduction, providing an overview of the research object, the Dai language,as well as the current research status. It begins by briefly introducing the classification of the Tai-Kadai language family and the basic situation of the Dai language.Following this,a brief summary of the current research on the grammaticalization of the Tai-Kadai language family,Southwest Tai language, and the Dai language is provided. Finally, the chapter explains the research purpose, significance, theoretical framework, and research methods of this paper, and introduces the data sources and scope of this paper.Chapter Two focuses on the grammaticalization path of nouns in Dai language.Through extensive grammatical facts, this chapter summarizes the process of grammaticalization of noun categories such as body part noun, classifier, demonstrative noun, and locative noun,in order to construct the grammaticalization path of nouns in Dai language.Furthermore,a comparison between the grammaticalization paths of Dai language and Tai-Kadai language family is made, and the universals and distinctness of grammatical evolution in each path are summarized.Chapter Three focuses on the grammaticalization path of verbs in the Dai language. This chapter presents a summary of the grammaticalization process of a range of specific verbs, including “put”,“give”,“clip”,“finish”,“take”,“touch, hit”,“suffer”,“get”,“lose”,“say”,“live”,“know”,“do”,as well as directional verbs and copular verbs,in order to construct the grammaticalization path of verbs in the Dai language.Additionally,a comparison is made between the grammaticalization paths of the Dai language and the Tai-Kadai language family, outlining their universals and distinctness in terms of grammaticalization evolution.Chapter Four focuses on the grammaticalization process of adjectives in Dai language, with particular emphasis on the three types of adjectives “good”,“many”,and “slow”.The aim is to construct the grammaticalization pathway of adjectives in Dai language through an analysis of their evolution.Additionally,a comparison is made between the grammaticalization pathways of Dai language and those of the Tai-Kadai language family, with an aim to summarize their universals and distinctness.Chapter Five comprises two sections: a conclusion and an evaluation of the study. The first section provides a comprehensive summary of the entire text, including the universals and distinctness of grammaticalization paths in the TaiKadai and Dai languages. The second section critically evaluates and reflects on the research methods and processes employed in this study, highlighting areas of inadequacy. |
