A Semantic And Pragmatic Study Of The Catchword “X Shi Y”

“zuipao shi jianfei” “zisha shi danshen” “qiqiu shi shejiao” “liu Yan shi liaotian”are four of the top 100 catchwords released by Sogou input method in 2019.In the Xiaoji dictionary,we found that there were 67 phrases with “X shi Y” structure from2018 to 2019.Using the research methods of combining qualitative and quantitative,description and explanation,investigation and data analysis,this paper makes a detailed explanation of the corpus of 67 popular words and overall construction of the catchword“X shi Y” by listing numbers,drawing charts,and giving examples,and reveals the semantic and pragmatic generation process of the catchword “X shi Y”.The first chapter gives a general overview of the catchword “X shi Y” around the definition,formation and development process of the catchword “X shi Y”,and holds that the catchword “X shi Y” originates from the popular “zhongguo shi AB”construction since 2012.The second chapter analyzes the semantic meaning of the catchword “X shi Y”.This paper makes a detailed study of the generation process,and makes a systematic description and explanation of the catchword “X shi Y” from the four aspects: direct metaphor,indirect metaphor,conceptual integration and Construction suppression.The catchword “X shi Y” is divided into two categories: the direct metaphor projected from “X” to “Y” and the indirect metaphor projected from“X” to “Y”.It is concluded that the catchword “X shi Y” can all pass the single domain model.Because the semantics of the specific catchword “X shi Y” can not be fully predicted from its components or other previous constructions,it has the conditions to become a construction.By analyzing the corpus,we can get the semantic features of the catchword “X shi Y”: a social phenomenon;unconventional and specificy;derogatory semantic color.In terms of semantic selection restriction,construction coercion influences the semantic features of catchword “X shi Y” from top to bottom,and lexical coercion helps to explain the semantic generation process of catchword “X shi Y”.After the first level “shi” suppresses “X”,the relevant features of “X” are extracted.In the second level,after “Y” suppresses “X shi”,one or some semantic features of “X shi” are highlighted.The third chapter explains the pragmatic features of the catchword “X shi Y”,which is a construction specially used in the network context.Because of its simplicity and novelty,the catchword “X shi Y” is often used in titles,which has the function of euphemism satire and the function of highlighting focus.The fourth chapter systematically explores the reasons for the popularity of the catchword “X shi Y”,which is divided into two levels: the internal level and the external level.On the internal level of language,we explore it from three aspects: memetics,economic principles,content generalization and form simplification.The extra linguistic level is further divided into social level and psychological level.On the social level,we explore from the ease of network environment and the influence of subculture;on the psychological level,we explore from the psychology of imitation and analogy and the need of self-expression.The fifth chapter explores the vitality of the specific phrases and the overall construction of the catchword "X shi Y".With the help of questionnaires and other methods,it comes to the conclusion that the vitality of the specific phrases in the catchword "X shi Y" is not strong,but the generation ability of the overall construction is strong and has a certain vitality.In a word,through the semantic and pragmatic study of the catchword “X shi Y”,we find that the meaning of this construction is obvious,and it has a certain language soil in circulation and vitality.This paper attempts to provide some references for the study of such constructions.
