Research On Lu Nan's Documentary Photography From The Perspective Of Social Memory

As one of the leaders of documentary photography in China,Lv nan is the first man who focus on the marginalized groups in China.It has a great impact on Chinese documentary photography art more than 20 years since his works were published.Lv described the groups who are forgotten in the society by a straightforward and equal way,and the marginal documentary works of him also became particular memories for its typicality.Benefiting from the development of modem communication,the photographic works of Lv is transition from the memories in small circle to the social memories of photographic art and culture gradually,and the value of photographic memory also is presented gradually in this process.From the 21st century,the theory of social memory has gradually became an important branch of memory researching,and documentary photography plays an image cultural memoiy role in the social memory because of its special method of memory.However,the research on social memory theory by domestic scholars is rarely combined with image culture.Therefore,studying the documentary photography of Lv under the background of social memory is helpful to comprehend the social memory of photograph and its influences.Firstly,definitions of theory of social memory and documentary photography were discussed in the thesis,and the content of social memory in the works of Lv was analyzed and concretized by these core concept.Based on the intuitive memory content and symbolic image,the works of Lv was analyzed deeply from the cultural aspect of "fact view","aesthetic view"and the others;And then the works was further explored from the aspect of typical symbolic image memory,such as characters,life and production.Secondly,reasons for the social memory formation of the works were studied.It was found that the social conditions such as historical traces of documentary photography,photography edge discourse transformation,and cultural identity of publics provided conditions for memories of the works,and the choice,cognition and methods in the works also inevitable be discussed under the background of social memory;Besides,the way of social memory also discussed in the thesis,social memories in the works of Lv were studied deeply from the aspect of oral memory,words scripts and exhibition ceremony,which was another issue related to the practice of social memory,and also the nature of social memory;Finally,the enlightenment froxn the social memory in the photograph of Lv was summarized.Referring to the case of Lv,the warming and thinking to the documentary photography,photography market and photography education in China was illustrated.
