From the date of birth, Documentary photography was accompanied with idealism of promoting the sociol reform. In the1980s and1990s, there was the rise of the Chinese Documentary photography and the emergence of a climax of the Documentary photography development. At that time, outstanding Documentary photographies emerged in large numbers. In their works, both the grand narrative themes and personal perspective themes took photos of the margins of society crowd. What social problems did Documentary photography reflect in our particular socio-historical context? And what the role did Documentary photography play in society? What obstacles did Documentary photography encounter? These problems will discuss In this dissertation, and compare the differences of the Chinese Documentary photography characterization. The dissertation consists5parts with8chapters, including aspects of literature review, research methods, the formation of the civilian perspective, case studies, analysis of the role of the Documentary photography in society, summary and outlook.
