Purpose:To investigate public stigma of schizophrenia, the empathy ability, the frequency of workplace violence, and contact with schizophrenia patients among nurses in the psychiatric hospital. To analyze the influencing factors of public stigma of schizophrenia among nurses in the psychiatric hospital. In order to provide a theoretical basis for reducing public stigma of schizophrenia. Methods:Method of cluster random sampling was used in this study.A questionnaire survey was conducted among 186 nurses from a psychiatric hospital in Shenyang,Liaoning Province.Questionnaires included a self-developed general information questionnaire,Public Stigma Scale of Mental Illness(PSSMI),the Jefferson scale of empathy-health professionals(JES-HP),Workplace Violence Frequency Measurement Scale(Wv S)and Scale of contact with Mental Illness.Excel software was used to double check and enter the collected data.SPSS20.0 statistical software was used for data analysis and processing.Descriptive statistical analysis was used for general information about nurses in the psychiatric hospital, public stigma of schizophrenia, frequency of workplace violence, empathy ability and contact with schizophrenia patients.Count data is expressed by frequency and percentage.Measurement data is expressed by?X±S.T text and ANOVA were used to analysis general information about nurses in the psychiatric hospital, public stigma of schizophrenia, frequency of workplace violence and contact with schizophrenia patients. The correlation analysis between nurses' empathy ability and public stigma of schizophrenia in the psychiatric hospital was analyzed Pearson correlation analysis.Multiple hierarchical regression analysis was used to analysis public stigma of schizophrenia.Results:1.The score of public stigma of schizophrenia by nurses in the psychiatric hospital was(5.45±1.42),the stigma subscale score was(3.12±0.79),the admission subscale score was(2.33±0.74).2.The total score of the empathy ability of the nurses in the psychiatric hospital was(81.17±5.80).The score of each dimension were opinion taking(38.64±3.46),emotional nursing(30.42±3.45)and transposition thinking(12.09±2.34).3.The score of the frequency of workplace violence suffered by nurses in the psychiatric hospital was(6.01±3.12).The frequency from high to low were: low frequency(43.0%),intermediate frequency(40.3%),high frequency(11.8%)and zero frequency(4.9%).4.The score of the contact degree between the nurses in the psychiatric hospital and schizophrenia patients was(4.67±1.51).There were 120 more people with low contact degree than with high contact degree.5.ANOVA results showed that the impact of 10 factors on the public stigma of schizophrenia was statistically significant(P<0.05).They were gender, age, the highest education, years of work, teaching or education, growth environment, whether being an only child, whether being a parent, frequency of workplace violence and the contact degree with schizophrenia patients.6.The results of Pearson correlation analysis showed that there was a significant negative correlation between the empathy ability of nurses in the psychiatric hospital and the total public stigma score of schizophrenia with a correlation coefficient of-0.674(P <0.01).There was a significant negative correlation between opinion choice and the total public stigma score of schizophrenia(P<0.01),emotional care was significantly negative correlation with the total public stigma score of schizophrenia(P<0.01),transposition thinking was significantly negative correlation with the total public stigma score of schizophrenia(P <0.01).7.The results of Multiple hierarchical regression analysis showed that the 6 independent variables of the frequency of workplace violence among nurses in psychiatric hospitals, the contact degree with schizophrenia patients, opinion choice, age, whether being an only child and transposition thinking were included in the regression equation, which were statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion:1.Public stigma of schizophrenia exists among nurses in psychiatric hospitals.Compared with stigma, nurses are more likely to accept schizophrenia patients.2.There was a significant negative correlation between the empathy ability of nurses in the psychiatric hospital and the total public stigma score of schizophrenia. That is,the higher the empathy ability of nurses in the psychiatric hospital, the lower the public stigma level of schizophrenia.3.Factors affecting the public stigma of schizophrenia among nurses in the psychiatric hospital include the frequency of workplace violence among nurses in the psychiatric hospital, the degree of contact with schizophrenia patients, opinion choice, age, whether being an only child and transposition thinking.
