Research On The Plague In Nanjing In 1918

From 1917 to 1918,plague broke out in Suiyuan(now the central part of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region)and Shanxi.The epidemic spread rapidly to many surrounding provinces and cities,and gradually evolved into a national disaster,which affected the people deeply.The central government paid great attention to it and ordered local governments to formulate health and epidemic prevention charters.Carrying out health and epidemic prevention work.In order to prevent the spread of plague into Nanjing,the local government of Nanjing actively responded to the call of the central government,which carry out the quarantine work of plague prevention and control from many aspects,especially strengthen the prevention and control of Pukou Station of the Jinpu Railway into Nanjing.For various reasons,the Nanjing local government failed to prevent the plague from invading Nanjing,causing death and panic among the people.Since then,with the assistance of the General Administration of Epidemic Prevention,the local government of Nanjing has taken a series of measures to prevent and treat plague,guiding Nanjing residents to participate actively and cooperate with each other,and finally successfully suppressed the spread of plague.Exploring the causes of plague in Nanjing in 1918 and the measures of Nanjing local government.It can not only examine the role of Nanjing local government in the process of plague prevention and treatment,but also reflect the overall level of public health and epidemic prevention in modern China and its weaknesses through the case of plague prevention and treatment in Nanjing.At present,there is little research on the plague in Nanjing in 1918 in the academic circles,but mentioned occasionally in relevant works,which is neither systematic nor in-depth.Therefore,the study of 1918 plague in Nanjing has original academic significance.Taking the prevention and treatment of plague by Nanjing local government in 1918 as the research object,this paper summarizes the current situation of public health development in Nanjing in the early years of the Republic of China,analyses the causes of plague occurrence and spread in Nanjing,analyses various measures taken in the process of plague prevention and treatment by Nanjing local government,and summarizes the achievements and shortcomings of plague prevention and treatment in Nanjing.This paper holds that the plague occurred and spread in Nanjing in 1918 is closely related to the developed traffic,dense population,weak public health awareness,poor public health facilities and the characteristics of plague dissemination in Nanjing.The response measures taken by Nanjing local government to the occurrence and spread of plague are relatively effective,which is an important reason for the phased success of plague control.However,the whole process of plague prevention and treatment in Nanjing fully reflects the serious deficiencies of public health epidemic prevention in China at that time,and the success of plague prevention and treatment in Nanjing have lucky elements.
