This article takes modern acupuncture and moxibustion medical cases and modern academic thoughts as research objects, which collects the related literatures of modern acupuncture and moxibustion by searching library collections and online databases. The author summarizes the thought process and experience of modern physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of acupuncture and moxibustion on some diseases and syndromes, and the academic thought of acupuncture during the period,as well as the academic development of modern acupuncture and its impact on later generations.First of all, through analyzing the background of the development of modern acupuncture and moxibustion, the author discusses the characteristics of the development of acupuncture and moxibustion at that time.In the background of western learning,"science"has gradually become the main spirit of that era.To survive and develop, the scientification of Chinese medicine seems to be the only option in this context. While acupuncture circles have established schools, prepared textbooks, and established academic institutions to preserve traditional acupuncture theories and techniques, they are also constantly introducing Western studies to elucidate the quality and function of the meridians and guide the depth of acupuncture.Affected by the scientific trend of thought, the acupuncture industry has,to a certain extent, paid more attention to the more practical acupuncture techniques and played down the inheritance of traditional theories. However, some doctors continue to improve them in order to adapt to the development of the times on the basis of inheriting ancient methods.Secondly,by sorting thought the relevant literature on modern acupuncture and moxibustion medical records retrieved, the characteristics of the acupuncture and moxibustion medical cases during this period were summarized.Due to the prosperity of the publishing industry,a considerable number of acupuncture and moxibustion medical books were published during the period of the Republic of China. The number of books related to acupuncture and moxibustion medical records also increased, and monographs of acupuncture and moxibustion medical cases began to appear. The acupuncture and moxibustion medical records in this period were generally detailed. For example, etiology, pathogenesis analysis, acupoint selection, operation methods, and nursing care and prognosis are all well documented. Moreover, the types of diseases covered are quite abundant, involving factors such as internal and external, women, and children, trauma, and emergency, etc. In addition to the specialized acupuncture medical books, the acupuncture treatment cases in this period were widely distributed in books of fiction and some magazines.Thirdly, through the analysis of modern medical schools in different geographical regions,we clarified the development of acupuncture and moxibustion in modern times and its influence on later generations. The main geographical schools involved are Shanghai,Lingnan, and Guangxi. We primarily introduce the academic ideology, acupoint selection, and techniques of each school. Finally, the author concluded that the thought process in modern acupuncture philosophy changed from non-objectified dominant thinking to objectified dominant thinking.By combing throught the concept of objectification and the non-objectitication,the author further illustrates the tao of these concepts, and points out the tao of the objectification and non-objectification in the application of acupuncture and moxibustion. The author compares the two in both in advantages and disadvantages, and points out that acupuncture and moxibustion activities not only need to be carried out in the form of objectification but also need attention given to the traditional way of thinking:the non-objectification,and furthermore put forward the positive significance of non-objectitication in contemporary acupuncturethe. To sum up,after systematically studying modern acupuncture and moxibustion from the above four aspects, the author believes that the special background of modern times makes the acupuncture and moxibustion academics in this period not only inherited traditional acupuncture, but also absorbed modern western medicine. For the inheritance and transmission of acupuncture medicine, scholars published acupuncture works, but also left a large number of detailed records of acupuncture medical cases. These medical cases not only have important clinical reference values, but also carry the academic thoughts of doctors that are of profound inspiration to the current development of acupuncture and moxibustion. It is worth digging deeper and studying. At the same time, the schools of acupuncture and moxibustion developed in modern times have established a pattern of contemporary acupuncture and moxibustion. The change of philosophical mode of modern acupuncture and moxibustion also has a profound influence on contemporary acupuncture and moxibustion.
