Research On Media Discourse And Media Image Of Depression

With the constant acceleration of social rhythm,various types of social conflicts are significantly aggravated,and people's mental health problems frequently enter public view.Depression,a major threat to mental health,has the highest incidence of mental illness.The topic of depression has become the focus of attention of the audience.This article uses content analysis methods,discourse analysis methods and other research methods to analyze the reports of major domestic online media platforms Sina and the private network discourse platform "Sunshine Engineering Psychological Mutual Assistance Forum”and WeChat public number“overcoming”depression reports.The discourse expression status compares media discourse and folk discourse to image construction of depressive patients,reveals the characteristics and existing problems of the mass media in depression reports,and discusses how patients with depression express themselves through discourse expression on the new media platform.The power to achieve counter-construction of discourse.This paper finds that at this stage,the mass media in our country did not cast enough eyes on the topic of depression,which affects the audience's complete and scientific cognition of depression.At the same time,the image of the depressed people in the media is single and negative,and the "stigma",feature is obvious.This kind of media bias originates from the power of the media.Depressive patients are in a state of collective aphasia.With the advent of new media technologies,patients with depression have spontaneously gathered in the folk discourse platform,actively presenting their own experiences and lives,and conducting mutual assistance and discourse fighting.Most of them can present many positive qualities such as optimism,strength and dedication.They have achieved empowerment at multiple levels,gained identity,created a sense of belonging,gained social and psychological support,and to some extent have mastered their own right to speak.However,in general,the stigma characteristic of the media image of patients with depression is obvious,and this group still bears negative labels that are difficult to remove.They not only have to endure the pain caused by the disease itself,but also have to bear the weight of the metaphor imposed on them.
