Research On Shanghai Cheongsam Culture From 1920 To 1940

From the 1920s to the 1940s,Shanghai was the center of Chinese cheongsam,and the cheongsam in this period represented the aesthetic,life and values of Chinese women,especially Shanghai women at that time.The cheongsam of this period changed greatly in style,fabric,color and decoration under the influence of many factors such as politics,economy,culture and social life.The wearing crowd and occasions of cheongsam also expanded with the change of women's social role and social consciousness.As a comprehensive pictorial,the pictorial of Companion is a mirror to show the social culture of Shanghai.Cheongsam as a fashion trend at that time,its change was fully demonstrated in the Companion through intuitive images.The Companion pictorial not only shows social popularity of cheongsam,but also through its own media role to guide and push forward the cheongsam further promotion and try to build a modern girl picture of modern life in Shanghai for the audience.The introduction part of this paper makes a systematic review and summary of the previous studies on cheongsam culture and the pictorial of Companion in domestic and foreign academic circles.It collects sorts and analyzes relevant articles on the news media,social life,culture and art in the pictorial of Companion,the research on the basic model system of cheongsam,the research on the evolution of cheongsam of female film stars in the period of the republic of China,and the female image in the advertisements of the bulletin board.The first chapter first introduces the basic situation and discusses the purpose,content and theme of the Companion pictorial as well as the audience group.Then counts,classifies and summarizes the number of images about female and cheongsam in the Companion pictorial,and briefly introduces the basic situation of cheongsam female in the Companion pictorial.The second chapter firstly summarizes the changes of cheongsam in time and region,then analyzes and summarizes the changes of cheongsam in the style in Shanghai from the 1920s to the 1940s,in the widely popularity of wearing people and the expansion of wearing occasions.The third chapter analyzes the factors of the change from five aspects:Shanghai population,geographical location,women's independent consciousness,social demonstration effect and the government's promotion.The last part is the conclusion,which mainly summarizes the cheongsam culture of Shanghai from the 1920s to the 1940s,and discusses the important role of media represented by the Companion pictorial in the development and revolution of cheongsam culture,then extends to the important influence of contemporary mass media in guiding and promoting social culture,so as to provide reference for the benign development of contemporary social culture.
