The evolution of clothing can be described by changes in style, which determines the general impression of the garment. With the development of the industrial revolution, the middle class gradually developed and grew, and the middle class women dominated the fashion.Due to the change of life style, the British middle class women's wear abandoned the court factor and became more and more concise and practical. This paper makes a systematic exposition of the main style types and the reasons for the style evolution of the British middle-class women's clothing in the period of industrial revolution from the social and cultural aspects. As a part of western clothing,British women's clothing is influenced by Paris fashion. However Britain has not completely imitated, but has formed a unique style of clothing according to its own country's environmental characteristics, folk customs, social culture and so on.In the period of industrial revolution, the mainstream clothing styles of British middle-class women mainly include pastoral style, romantic style, sports style, art nouveau style and practical style, etc.,which have different time backgrounds, style characteristics and style modelling.I accompanied the description with a large number of illustrations to make it more stereoscopic.Throughout the evolution of these clothing styles,British women's clothing in the industrial revolution period showed the characteristics of democratization, frequent change and diversification. The reasons for such complex clothing are worth investigating.Firstly, from the perspective of social factors, science and technology in the industrial revolution period provided the basis for the evolution of clothing, and women's leisure life became the driving force for the change of clothing.Middle-class women also launched a reform movement in clothing, and then the war environment of the First World War and the constant innovation of fashion designers directly pushed British women's clothing to the forefront of modernization.Secondly, the cultural concept of British middle-class women also gradually changed. When the family concept oppresses women, the new professional concept appears, and the professional dress becomes the trend.Besides, the change of aesthetics following the times as well as the change of the consumption concept of extravagance and frugality all affect the development of British women's clothes. The change of clothing also reflects the change of society. The deep reason behind the change of clothing is actually the reflection of the tremendous impact people experienced after the Industrial Revolution on clothing. When language and culture generally emphasize family ideology in literary magazines, the alternative style clothing as a non-verbal culture expresses the opposite meaning, which reveals the most real idea in women's hearts: middle-class women always want to break out of the cage of the family. Therefore,in the sense of female independence, the evolution of women's dress during the industrial revolution is self-evident to the modernization of British women's dress and the modernization of women themselves. The role of women's clothing in the whole British clothing culture system is obvious.
