Lao People's Democratic Republic(Lao PDR)is a landlocked and least developed country both in the Greater Mekong Sub Region(GMS)and in the Association of South-East Asia Nation(ASEAN)Region.Lao PDR depends on its neighbors as its key transit destinations by using their sea-ports.Thus,the improvement and development bonded land transport logistics node or dry-port in Lao PDR,especially the bonded logistics center to accommodate and integrate with its neighbors' sea-ports,as well as the cross-border truck transportation development become an essential characteristic for substantial economic development for Lao PDR.Therefore, the government of Lao PDR is implementing policies in order to transform Lao PDR from a landlocked country to become a ‘land linked' country by focusing on improving and developing the infrastructure to integrate into the GMS and ASEAN to further implement and fulfill effectively and efficiently its national logistics strategy in particular, for its sustainable social and economic development. This study investigated both direct and indirect the Operating Performance Improvement of Bonded Logistics of Vientiane in Laos. The development of Bonded Logistics Center is a key component of the implementation of the National Logistics Development Strategy in Laos, which is enhancing an efficiency logistics system that can directly impacted on the improvement of trade and transport facilitation, and also increase a National or Regional competiveness and an ability to attract foreign direct investment(FDI).Laos still lacks of the reliability network of dependable transportation and other related necessary infrastructure facilities, including information communication technology(ICT).This current limitation affected an efficient of bonded transportation systems between Laos and Thailand,as specially the cross-border truck transportation from Nongkhai border checkpoint and I-Friendship Bridge Checkpoint,Thanaleng to Vientiane through Vientiane Bonded Logistics Center(VBLC)as the highest trade volume into Laos from Thailand. Therefore, the purpose of this thesis is to identify, describe and analyze key factors that affected the barriers and impediment of bonded transportation systems in the VBLC as an illustrative Case Study. The purpose of this paper is also to identify and investigate both direct and indirect factors that affected to the bonded transportation from Nongkhai to Vientiane in particular. It could be a potential guideline for forming competitive advantages and strategy improvement and development of VBLC.
