Quality Management,Green Practices And Performance

With the deterioration of natural environment and increasing shortage of resources,the public is increasingly concerned about environmental issues and government regulations are becoming more stringent.Green practices seem to be an important means for companies to maintain and develop their competitiveness.However,in practice,companies chose completely different approaches when facing this problem.Only small group of far-sighted leaders actively implement green practices in order to obtain good social influence and corporate image to enhance their competitiveness,such as Apple's program of recycling water resources and cooperation with suppliers to establish and install equipment for energy conservation and emission reduction.On the contrary,it is common to see most enterprises passively await regulatory tightening and even violate regulations to ensure the economic benefits.Quality management is more mature.Nowadays,it has received approval for more than 100 countries around the world.And many enterprises have obtained ISO9000 certification.Studies found that similarities lies between quality management and green practices.For example,they all emphasize continuous improvement,top management leadership,and full participation and so on.Therefore,we hope that the relationship between quality management and green practice will be a key point to study whether the establishment of a quality management system can effectively influence the implementation of green practices.In addition,whether green practice can bring environmental and economic performance to the company has not been consistently concluded.In summary,based on global data,this study intends to explore the following issues:(1)What is the relationship between quality management(including soft quality management and hard quality management)and green practices(including internal green practices and external green practices)?(2)Can green practice lead to the improvement of firm performance?(3)Can institutional pressure effectively moderate the relationship between quality management and green practices? Based on the survey data of 304 manufacturing companies worldwide,this article uses SPSS,Smart PLS software for research verification.The results show that: Soft quality management effectively enhance the company's internal and external green practices,while hard quality management only promote internal green practices.The internal green practice post a positive effect on environmental performance,but it brings economic indirectly.However,the external green practice can bring about the improvement of the environmental performance as well as the economic performance for the enterprise.Finally,the study also found that institutional pressure can positively moderate the relationship between quality management and green practices.This study not only enriches Natural Resource-based theory and Institutional theory,but also conducted in-depth research on the subdivision dimension of quality management and the factors of performance in green practice.It not only makes up for the gaps in the current research,but also has a certain reference value for the enterprise managers' strategic decision-making and behavioral practice.
