Research On The Missing Function Of Illustrations In Children's Literature Books

At this stage,children's books have become the backbone of China's book publishing industry,and children's literature books are the largest part of the children's book market.Children's cognitive ability is limited.For a long period of time,the books they read require illustrations to explain and decorate.Although the illustrations of some current children's literature books are exquisite,the reading effect and market response are still mediocre,failing to form a competitive advantage.This study believes that this is closely related to the lack of illustration's function,and cannot be solved only by the efforts of illustrators.How to improve the function of these illustrations by optimizing editing and publishing is the purpose of this article.This article mainly adopts three research methods: literature research method,questionnaire survey method and case analysis method.The content is divided into six parts:In the first part,the paper sorts out the research background and research status of this article,defines the key elements involved in the topic selection,and determines the scope of the research content in the following article.At present,many researches of children's book illustrations are mostly limited to the field of art,the purpose ofthese researches is to improve the artistic value of illustrations.There are few papers that regard illustration as a functional part of a children's literature book or study illustration from the field of publishing and editing.This is the main work to be done in this article.In the second part,the thesis puts forward four main functions of illustrations for children's literature,which are reading auxiliary function,graphic interactive function,art decoration function and publicity recognition function.The third part,using the method of questionnaire,through the analysis of the survey results,explore the readers' perception of the four functions and the illustration function that fails to meet the readers' demands.The fourth part,based on the readers' demand for illustrations of children's literature books,as well as the observation and analysis of related books on the market,puts forward the problems in the illustrations of children's literature books,and studies the causes of them.These problems include: the amount of illustrations is not rich,the functions such as inspiring interest are not fully utilized;the illustrations lack expressiveness in the content,and only copy the literal description mechanically;the arrangement of the illustrations is not flexible enough and vivid,and the layout lacks changes;the visual image of characters in different versions of books is different,which does not form a high degree of identification.In the fifth part,this article takes the best-selling children's literature book "Detective Sherlock Holmes" as an example,analyzes the performance of the illustrations in this set of books in the four functions of reading assistance,graphic interaction,art decoration and publicity recognition,and preliminary discuss the reasons for maximizing these functions.The sixth part,according to the results of the case analysis,combined with practical experience,put forward measures to improve the illustration function of children's literature books.This article believes that when publishing such books,we should increase the number of illustrations,improve the auxiliary function of reading,balance the power of graphics and text in the creation of illustrations,improve the interactive function of graphics and text,refine the layout planningbefore the drawing of illustrations,improve the flexibility of the layout,unify the image of illustrations,and improve the brand awareness.In the conclusion,this article believes that under the background of new media infiltrating children's lives,the improvement of book illustration functions must become a key issue for children's book publishers.In view of some deeper contradictions,this article proposes that publishers should establish and train a group of responsible editors with high aesthetic qualities,and establish a long-term and stable cooperative relationship with illustrators,and strengthen the role of schools in book selection led by the education department.
