Mathematics,physics and chemistry,as the core of fundamental research,are typical natural sciences.The research results of mathematics,physics and chemistry also have a profound impact on the development of other disciplines.This paper takes ESI highly cited papers in mathematics,physics and chemistry during 2009 to 2018 as the research object,and uses informetric analysis,social network analysis and interdisciplinary measurement analysis methods to study and compare them from four dimensions of distribution,cooperation,research topics,interdisciplinary and knowledge flow.Among them,the social network analysis method chooses the degree centrality,the betweenness centrality and the closeness centrality as the measurement indicators.And the interdisciplinary analysis chooses the Brillouin index and the Hill-type index as the measurement indicators.The results show that: in terms of the overall number and annual trends,the number of ESI highly cited papers in the field of chemistry is the largest,with a relatively large annual range,followed by the number of ESI highly cited papers in the field of physics.The number of ESI highly cited papers in the field of mathematics is the least.The annual trend of the number of ESI highly cited papers in the field of physics and mathematics is relatively stable.From the perspective of national/regional distribution,China and the United States have the largest output scale of ESI highly cited papers.From the perspective of institutional distribution,the main output types of institutions of ESI highly cited papers are colleges and universities,especially domestic and foreign well-known universities.Some well-known scientific research institutes also have good performance.From the perspective of journal distribution,papers published in high-quality journals with high impact factors are easier to be highly cited.From the perspective of cooperation,China and the United States have made great contributions to the formation of the global cooperation network in the field of mathematics,physics and chemistry.They both have strong influence on the network.The three disciplines show certain regional characteristics in international cooperation,especially in the field of mathematics and chemistry.From the perspective of interdisciplinary measurement and knowledge flow,the interdisciplinary measurement value of chemistry is the largest,followed by physics and mathematics.The interdisciplinary of the three disciplines has been increasing from 2009 to 2018.Knowledge in mathematics,physics and chemistry mainly comes from the discipline itself.Most highly cited papers have cited from more than one other discipline.The knowledge flow between the field of physics and chemistry have a strong mutual relationship.These two disciplines are closely related,with the trend of mutual promotion and common development.
