Research On Interdisciplinary Characteristics And Measurement Of Highly Cited Scholars

As one of the main knowledge production modes since the 21 st century,interdisciplinary research has greatly promoted the integration of today's knowledge.Compared with ordinary scholars,highly-cited scholars often have higher influence,thus research on the interdisciplinary nature of highly-cited scholars is conducive to typically abstracting the rules of knowledge flow in a certain field.This article selects300 Clarivate Analytics highly-cited researchers from 6 different fields in 2020,based on the WOS category of a single document,the professional degree S and the Gini coefficient GN were used to measure the richness and balance of the Subject distribution of highly cited authors,respectively.Then conducts correlation analysis between these two indicators and the author's interdisciplinary citation index Brillouin index,intending to explore the relationship between interdisciplinary citations and interdisciplinary publications.On this basis,the disciplinary integration in different fields is studied,and the knowledge absorption and fusion path from citation to publication is displayed in a visual form.Finally,based on the interdisciplinary characteristics of highly cited scholars,this paper explores the relationship between the interdisciplinary degree of scholars and the influence of works.The results of the study found that the discipline distribution of highly cited scholars from different fields has its own characteristics and similar rules.Knowledge that belongs to the same field of natural sciences will also have certain barriers to absorption and transformation when learning from each other.Highly cited scholars in the fields of biology,medicine,and psychiatry have frequent knowledge exchanges,and the fields of engineering,mathematics,and physics show the characteristics of neighboring disciplines.The interdisciplinarity of highly cited scholars from different fields shows a similar pattern of high abundance and low balance.There is a significant correlation between the interdisciplinary publication measurement index based on the subject classification of the publication itself and the interdisciplinary citation measurement index based on the citation subject classification,revealing that scholars refer to the knowledge of different disciplines in their research,which is helpful for publishing interdisciplinary scientific research results.The Sankey diagram is used to display the flow characteristics between disciplines in the knowledge production link of highly cited scholars in different fields from citing articles to publishing articles.It is found that highly cited scholars in the field of biology have a strong ability to absorb knowledge in related fields such as clinic medicine,and have a strong ability to integrate knowledge.Exploring the relationship between the interdisciplinary degree of highly cited scholars and the citation of works,It is found that the higher the interdisciplinarity of highly cited scholars and the more balanced the distribution of disciplines involved,then the more positive it can enhance the influence of their academic papers.
