The Narrative Characteristics Research On Investigative Reporting Of Data-driven Journalism

With the development of big data and network technology,data journalism has been highly valued as a new type of reporting genre by the news media.The development of data journalism has changed the original news narrative model.Traditional news narrative mode is mainly based on words,pictures,videos or other media are used as auxiliary.Data-driven Journalism is based on data.Through data visualization,the news focuses on the final visualization results.The reporter starts to use the data to tell the story,and the related relationship between the data begins to receive the attention of the news media.At the mean time,with the arrival of the new media era,the development of investigative reporting in China has encountered difficulties because of the activate network supervision and citizen journalism and he impact of fragmented information and other factors.The attempt to use big data to conduct data-driven investigative reporting may be a path for the future development of investigative reporting.This paper attempts to explore the narrative features of data-driven investigative reporting from the perspective of narratology.In this paper,research cases are 55 nominations of the Data Journalism Award(DJA)during 2013-2018,starting with the basic conception of narratology,combining narrator,narrative time,narrative perspective,narrative structure with data-driven investigative reporting for analysis.Using case analysis and content analysis method,found that the narrative mode of data-driven investigative reporting is quite different from the traditional news report,and formed its unique narrative features.It mainly includes the following aspects: data becomes a narrator,and has a omniscient perspective;composite narrative of multiple narrators and narrative perspectives;narrative presentation uses multiple media such as pictures,videos,interactive maps;reports use serialized forms,narritive structures can be divided into complementary and parallel modes;the spatial narrative of maps brings a macroscopic perspective,etc.Finally,author summarizes the narrative strategies of data-driven investigative reporting,including the use of multiple narrative media,enhance interactive narration,and storytelling narration,which can provide suggestions for the future development of data-driven investigative reporting,which ways domestic media can be learned.
