GPON(Gigabit-capable Passive Optical Network)technology can meet the performance requirements of subscribers and telecommunications operators for the next generation OAN(Optical Access Network)and adapt to the trend of triple-play access networks.Nevertheless,the high price of optical accessing device and hot competition between the equipment manufacturers always restrict its rapid development.Therefore,studying and designing the GPON ONU(Optical Network Unit)to achieve a lower cost has become very important to the GPON technology and application prospect.In this dissertation,by studying optical module working principle,GPON architecture and protocol model,a GPON ONU design based on BOSA(Bidirectional Optical Subassembly)-on-Board technology is proposed to reduce the cost.The optical transceiver designed by BOB(BOSA on Board)technology can save 37% cost compared to using traditional optical module solution.After completed the ONU design,the optical interface test and ONU performance test are implemented on the prototype machine to ensure that the design meets the requirements of the G.984 standard for the GPON device.The results show that the ONU with BOB technology design meets the performance and criterion of GPON in all test conditions.Compared to the products based on traditional design,it has a high market competitiveness.
