Research On Text Landscape Narrative In The Context Of Visual Communication

Since entering the era of visual communication,we are surrounded by various images,and we also rely on images to understand and perceive the world.On the one hand,in a highly visualized society,images not only provide people with visual enjoyment,but also convey the connotation as a visual symbol.On the other hand,compared with the text,the image can cross the gap between different languages and cultural background,and deliver information more intuitively.This article takes a total of 228 issues of Chinese National Geography from 2001 to 2019 as the research object,and adopts four methods of text analysis,content analysis,questionnaire survey and comparative study to explore the symbol reproduction process of the visual text landscape in the magazine and the significance for construction behind the landscape symbol.The study found that under continuous exploration Chinese National Geography has formed its own visual effects and styles since its revision in October 2000.Intuition,collection and subversion become the main characteristics of its visual communication.Besides,with the help of numerous images,this magazine reproduces two major types of visual text landscapes: naturalism and humanity,and realizes the transformation from objective geographical landscapes to visual text landscapes through symbolic coding,visual metonymy and cultural value collusion.In the process of landscape symbolization,the deep meaning behind the symbol also emerges.Chinese National Geography integrates cultural genes into visual text landscape,and carries out micro-narrative under the grand theme,connecting visual symbols with people's experience.While guiding their readers back to the past life,it also strengthens their sense of identity and regional belonging.Ultimately,in the view of globalization,Chinese National Geography not only constructed a unique way of viewing China in the "red frame",but also built up national image in a subtle way through localized content,allowing the world to perceive China's beauty.
