In recent years,with the rapid development of 3D display technology,the demand for 3D vision is evergrowing,and naked eye 3D technology is bound to become one of the mainstream display technology in the future.In this paper,a side-glowing fiber oriented backlight naked eye 3D display system is researched,and the system can obtain full resolution naked eye 3D display.Firstly,this paper introduces three main methods of realizing naked eye 3D display based on parallax,comparing and analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of the three methods.Among them,the naked eye 3D display of directional backlight method is an ideal naked eye 3D technology because of its high brightness,comfortable viewing and easy realization of stereoscopic visual effect.In order to solve the problems of traditional naked eye 3D display resolution loss and difficulty in making directional backlight module.The side-glowing plastic optical fiber(POF),which surface has the scattering points graved by the laser marking machine and the hot knife,is adopted,and a directional backlight naked eye 3D display solution based on side-glowing fiber backlight is proposed.The uniform side-glowing POF with laser engraved concave scattering points on it is modeled to deriving the formula of computing the scattering point coordinates.The design of the concave scattering point parameters is established by SolidWorks to construct the side-glowing fiber model,and light ray tracing simulation is carried out based on TracePro.The results showed that the tiny changes of the scattering point length semicircular angle(characterization of the depth of the concave scattering points and the horizontal length)had large impact on the luminescence brightness uniformity while tiny changes of concave scattering points axial width had little impact on side-glowing luminance uniformity.When the optimized parameters are POF radius R=0.25mm,the width of the concave scattering points d=0.15mm,the scattering points length semicircular angle ?=15°,the length of the POF L=600mm,and the side-glowing luminance uniformity of the POF side is 87.5% used by the TracePro simulation.According to the designing optimized parameters,the laser marking machine is used for graving scattering points on the surface of POF,and the side-glowing luminance uniformity of single POF is 80.90%.The surface light source is composed of 100 side-glowing POF,the luminescence uniformity is 88.91%.It is demonstrated that this method and the POF surface light source could meet the demand of the design of directional backlight on naked eye 3D display.A naked eye 3D display time division drive system based on the FPGA development platform is designed using sopc technology,the synchronization between the VGA output of the left and right parallax images for the SD card and the refresh rate of side growing POF backlight array is realized.Ensure that the LCD left and right eye images and the corresponding side growing fiber backlight synchronous output.In addition,the paper introduces a three-dimensional picture shooting scheme based on two CCD and gives the corresponding calculation method.Through matlab collection,processing,synthesis and storage multi-view 3D pictures and left and right format 3D pictures,the GUI interface is also designed to be convenient for users to use.Finally,the paper designs a full-resolution naked eye 3D display prototype for verification.Our experiment produced a directional beam with a side growing fiber backlight for the first time.Full resolution naked eye 3D display based on directional backlight with SGPOF array module provides significant improvements in thickness,crosstalk and viewer 2D/3D mode switch compared to conventional naked eye 3D displays.More than that,the thickness of compact naked eye 3D display screen is only 18 mm.Moreover,the coupled way with globular lens in end side of side growing fiber is used to increase the coupling efficiency between LED and side growing fiber,and it is found that the coupling efficiency is 300% times higher than that of the direct coupling efficiency.The second major finding is that the luminance uniformity of the backlight module is up to 89.3%,and the overall crosstalk is shown to be lower than 10%,and minimum achievable crosstalk can be as small as 2.2% in the viewing zones,which can provide comfortable 3D visions.
