The phase control system with control circuit has been widely used in military and commercial wireless communication fields.At the same time,the increasing communication needs also urgently require the design innovation of RF devices and systems related to the phase control system.Retrodirective array is a special phase array.Compared with traditional phase arrays,it has simple structure,low cost,low power consumption,and easy integration.It does not require complex digital signal processing(DSP)technology or control algorithms,nor does it require prior knowledge about the direction of the incident wave.It can automatically trace back to the direction of the incoming wave.Retrodirective array has high research and application value and has attracted widespread attention and interest from scholars at home and abroad.This article first introduces two typical retrodirective arrays: Van Atta array and Pon-Type array.The principles of these two retrodirective arrays are explained in detail.At the same time,other retrodirective systems derived from these two structures are studied.Based on this,this paper proposes a new type of retrodirective array system working at 20GHz(Ka band).The system consists of an antenna array,a two-stage mixer structure,a power divider,a voltage-controlled phase shifter,and digital logic unit.The designed retrodirective array system has the following characteristics:(1)It can be used as a typical phase array by setting a specific phase shifter voltage value;(2)It can be applied as a traditional retrodirective array by dynamically adjusting the voltage value of the phase shifter in real time;(3)When the incoming signal suddenly disappears,the system can still work;(4)The frequency of the retransmitted signal may be any frequency,and could be different from the frequency of the incident wave.Finally,some modules constituting the system are processed and tested,and the test results are given.
