Scientific research institution discipline competitiveness reflects the development level of subject,it can reveal the advantages and disadvantages of the subject. At present, the commonly used evaluation system of subject competitiveness is generally composed of four indicators: subject productivity, subject influence, subject innovation and subject development. In terms of measuring the influence of disciplines, traditional bibliometric indexes based on citation are used.but it also has certain drawbacks,in recent years, science evaluation world trying to find a new measurement index instead of traditional measurement indicators,or improve the citation index, but anyway,in terms of scientific research influence, only academic influence is measured. As the rise of online academic communication platform and various network collaborative tools, there is a new way to measure the influence of discipline, the academic influence of a discipline can be measured by the recognition of scientific research achievements by academic peers, the social influence of a discipline can also be measured by the degree to which social network groups pay attention to scientific research achievements.Altmetrics can measure the social impact of a discipline, thereby comprehensively and scientifically evaluating the discipline competitiveness of a research institution. On the basis of systematically sorting out the research status of Altmetrics and the development trend of the evaluation of discipline influence, this study discussed the feasibility of evaluating discipline competitiveness from the perspective of Altmetrics, combined with the tool of Altmetrics, and further proposed the introduction of the evaluation system of discipline competitiveness of Altmetrics. On this basis,50 scientific research institutions were selected as samples, with biology as the research object.Traditional metrics data and Altmetrics data were obtained from the In Cites database developed by Thomson Reuters and the Altmetrics Explorer developed by Digital Science,Principal component analysis and correlation analysis were used to explore the difference and relationship between the two indicators, and the similarities and differences between the two indicators to measure the influence of disciplines, proving the rationality of the introduction of Altmetrics.Furthermore, the evaluation system constructed by Altmetrics in this paper is compared with the traditional evaluation system for the level of discipline competitiveness.According to the study,Altmetrics did not correlate well with traditional metrics.Altmetrics and traditional metrics respectively measure the impact of different aspects of the discipline, and it is one-sided to evaluate the impact of the discipline with only traditional metrics. While traditional literature metrics reflect the recognition of academic peers,Altmetrics reflects the concerns of social network groups, which are related and influence each other, but cannot replace each other.Compared with the traditional evaluation system, the evaluation system of discipline competitiveness of scientific research institutions with Altmetrics is more diversified,it can effectively reflect the influence of discipline on academic peers and social network groups, and comprehensively reflect the discipline competitiveness of scientific research institutions.Due to the differences in the academic exchange environment at home and abroad, the relevant results obtained in this study are only applicable to foreign countries and cannot be completely transplanted into China, the evaluation of subject competitiveness by introducing Altmetrics in China still needs to be further explored.
