Study On The News Report About Aging Issues On Both Sides Of The Taiwan Straits

Aging population has become a worldwide social problem.According to data from the United Nations Population Fund,in 2019,about half of the world's countries/regions with a population of 65 years or older account for 7% or more,which means they enter an aging society.With the deepening of China's aging,aging has become a trend feature of China's social development.The Paper news based on Shanghai is a media with great influence in the mainland.ETtoday news cloud is a media with great influence in Taiwan.Therefore,this paper takes The paper and ETtoday news cloud as the research object to analyze the elderly issue news on their website to probe into the differences and existing problems between the mainland and Taiwan news media on the elderly issue.This paper selects new reports on aging issues from The Paper news and ETtoday news cloud website in 2019 as samples.617 articles about the aging are selected from The Paper news and 596 selected from ETtoday news websites.Quantitative method is adopted to analyze the news framework,news themes,reporting forms and media images of the elderly presented.This paper points out the characteristics of The Paper news and ETtoday news cloud website in the elderly issue news,and summarizes the factors that influence the difference showed in reporting elderly on both sides of the Taiwan straits,including the local culture,referential consensus,and differences in media properties and settings.According to the research,the media on both sides of the Taiwan straits tend to regard the elderly as "the other".They report the elderly with a weak framework.The media on both sides of the Taiwan straits tend to present the elderly with a negative media image,lacking positive awareness of aging.There is a media bias in the report of "dama" on the ETtoday news cloud website,but old age news is much richer.Finally,based on the findings of the previous study,the author puts forward the suggestions of increasing the subjectivity narration of the elderly,enriching the topics,enhancing the media literacy of the middle-aged and elderly groups.
