The development of network information technology has made everyone have the freedom to acquire, produce and disseminate information. The low threshold for the production of short video platforms has enabled township youth in underdeveloped areas to gain the right to self-display and self-expression.They produced “Tuwei video” on the short video platform and gained more widely spread and catch a lot attention. This study selects the “Tuwei video” produced by the grassroots township youths as the research object, and conducts an in-depth analysis of the new form of the network youth subculture.First of all, this study analyzes the propagation characteristics of “Tuwei video” and the underlying reasons for its popularity. It is considered that “Tuwei video” is a kind of representation of the daily life of grassroots township youth in the network environment. They use a strange costume, awkward plots, arrogant expressions, exaggerated performances, etc.to create a visual spectacle,to capture the attention of the audience, and to obtain traffic.“Tuwei video” is gradually being shaped into a visual commodity for the masses to consume.Secondly, this study uses the Birmingham School's logic and theory to analyze the“Tuwei Video”,a new form of network youth subculture. The grassroots youths at the bottom of the stage used the parody, collage and isomorphic methods to perform and produce “Tuwei Video” on the short video platform, vying for the right to speak and responding to the mainstream culture. At the same time,Throughout the“Tuwei Video”subculture style, the township youths achieved ritual resistance to the mainstream culture, and the real life dilemma was also solved imaginatively. In the end, mainstream culture achieves the integration of “Tuwei Video” through commercial capital, mainstream values, and social order.
