| Feature stories are playing an increasingly important role in contemporary Chinese journalism.They hold special appeal to readers due to their use of vivid narratives and literary language.Through sharing stories about ordinary people's lives,feature stores invite its readers to reflect upon the deepest questions confronting their everyday life.Through reading about others'stories,the readers begin to gain understanding of themselves and those around them.That is where we find the ultimate value of feature writing and feature stories.This paper explains what is feature writing,why feature writing is such a significant form of journalism,the narrative appeal of feature stories,and the fundamental methods(such as creativity,literary expression,factuality,scenery description)to help create an effective feature story.More importantly,this paper analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of the feature story"New Voices of the Qin Opera" in terms of the story's narration,characterization,its discussion of relevant social issues,the role of the author in the narration,and the use of background information.Based on this analysis,the paper derives further strategies and techniques for effective feature writing. |
