Along with the rapid development of our country economy, the urban-rural dual system has spawned a special group – rural left-behind women.Since Chinese academic circles began to pay attention to this group in 2004,most studies focus on their living conditions, but the study of the image is few.Due to the factors of regional environment, gender characteristics and their own limitations, the rural left-behind women become the “vulnerable group in the weak” in the eyes of mass media, resulting in the inability to use media resources and the loss of their own voice. This group is gradually being “affiliated and marginalized”.Because the issues of agriculture, rural areas and farmers are always the fundamental issues in the country's development,left-behind women in the rural areas become the important force in the construction of new countryside.Studying the media image of this group is not only beneficial to the main expression of the staying women themselves, but also affects the cognition and evaluation of other groups,as well as the development process of economic construction and harmonious society.Because the party newspaper has dominant position, the author took advantage of the important newspaper database in CNKI(China National Knowledge Infrastructure)to select the newspaper reports about the rural left-behind women from 2004 to 2018 years as samples.Based on the frame theory of Guoren Zhang, the dissertation uses the research methods of qualitative analysis(text analysis)and quantitative analysis(content analysis)to reveal the image characteristics of staying women in rural areas and the existing problems in newspaper construction of the group image, then reflects on the reasons for the formation of this media image. It is hoped that media can reflect their image more comprehensively and truly to promote a more objective and rational public view of the rural left-behind women. After the frame analysis of three levels(low, medium and high level),the research has found that the media images of left-behind women in rural areas appear “optimistic, kind, depressed and superficial images”.During the construction of their images, newspaper made some mistakes such as homogeneous reports, highlighting positive images and weakening negative images, image and attribution typing. There are three reasons for the formation of this group image: the limitations and positive side of rural left-behind women,a news reporting framework dominated by political propaganda, the imbalance of social structure and advancement of gender equality.Combining the problems with attribution.
